WPForms
Non-technical site owners and small businesses who want polished forms quickly with a clear upgrade path.
From simple contact forms to payment, registration and calculation forms: how the main WordPress form builders compare on the features that matter.
A form builder is often the first plugin a WordPress site installs: contact forms, quote requests, registrations, surveys, payment and booking forms all depend on it. The options range from free, code-light tools such as Contact Form 7 to full application builders with calculations, workflows and CRM integrations.
We compare the most popular form plugins side by side, including freemium builders like WPForms, Fluent Forms, Formidable Forms, Ninja Forms, Forminator, Everest Forms, MetForm, JetFormBuilder, SureForms and WS Form, and premium-only options such as Gravity Forms and Quform. Every plugin is checked against the same 36 features in six groups: building, payments, entries and workflow, integrations, spam protection and compliance, and developer tools.
Each feature is marked as included in the free version, paid only, available through an add-on, partial or not offered, with a note and a link to the source. Rankings combine that feature score with WordPress.org popularity and ratings, so you can see at a glance which form builder covers what you need, and what it will cost.
Overall score = 55% features, 20% popularity, 25% ratings. Filter by the features you need, or tick two plugins to compare them.

Statuses: Yes Pro Add-on Partial 3rd-party No ?
A simple contact form needs very little: spam protection, email notifications and somewhere to keep a copy of each submission. If that is all you need, most free versions will do. Check that entries are actually stored in your dashboard, though. Some free plugins only send an email, and Contact Form 7 needs the separate Flamingo plugin to keep submissions.
Conditional logic, multi-step forms, file uploads, calculations, save-and-resume, signatures and CRM integrations are where free and paid tiers most often split. Use the feature filter above to narrow the list to plugins that include the features you need, then check which plan each one requires.
Stripe and PayPal support is common, but the details differ. Some free versions allow payments with an extra transaction fee on top of the processor's own, while others keep payments, subscriptions and coupons in paid plans. If you sell through forms regularly, compare the cost of the fee against the price of a licence.
If you build with Elementor, MetForm and the form widgets of the big builders feel native. If you work in the block editor, SureForms and JetFormBuilder are designed around blocks. Developers who need hooks, a REST API and fine control over markup tend to prefer Gravity Forms, Formidable Forms or WS Form.
Paid form plugins are usually priced per site per year, with higher tiers unlocking more add-ons. Agencies should compare the multi-site tiers, and check whether a lifetime licence is offered. First-year discounts are common, so look at the renewal price too.
