WPForms
Beginner-friendly drag-and-drop form builder from Awesome Motive with a free Lite plugin, 2,100+ templates and tiered Pro plans for payments and CRMs.
Drag-and-drop WordPress form builder with a visual styler, calculators, quizzes and Views for turning entries into directories and listings.
Formidable Forms is a WordPress form builder from Strategy11 that goes beyond contact forms into calculators, quizzes, surveys, payment forms and data-driven applications. Forms are assembled in a drag-and-drop builder, styled with a built-in visual styler, and every submission is stored in the WordPress database where it can be searched, edited and exported.
The free Lite plugin covers unlimited forms and entries, basic fields, around 30 starter templates, simple calculations, CSV export and a solid spam toolkit (honeypot, Akismet, reCAPTCHA, hCaptcha and Cloudflare Turnstile). It also connects to Stripe, PayPal Commerce and Square, including recurring payments, but Formidable adds a 3% application fee on top of processor fees until you move to the Business or Elite plan.
Pro licences are tiered, and the tier matters a lot:
The standout is Views, which lets you display submitted data on the front end as directories, listings or calendars without a separate plugin. The calculation engine is capable enough for quote builders and mortgage calculators, and the visual styler means most branding work needs no CSS. Developers get documented hooks and the ability to edit form HTML.
Many headline features sit in Business ($399/year at renewal), so the entry-level Basic plan can feel thin. Conditional logic and file uploads are not in the free version, which is stricter than some rivals. The builder has a learning curve once you get into Views and dynamic fields.
Who should pick it: sites that need forms to feed searchable listings, calculators or data apps, and agencies willing to pay for the Business tier to get the full toolkit.
Best for: Sites building calculators, data directories or form-driven applications that need entries displayed on the front end.
Formidable is one of the most capable form builders for data-heavy projects, thanks to Views and its calculation engine. The catch is a steep tier ladder: most people will need Business to get quizzes, PDFs and Zapier, which makes it pricier than rivals for simpler needs.

Free installs from WordPress.org, the vendor's own claim, and our estimate of paid installs.
Active installations reported by WordPress.org.

Our estimate, see method below.
How we estimated this: WordPress.org shows 300K+ free installs, which could mean anything from 300K to 400K. The vendor says 300K+ sites, so we put the free count halfway between the middle of that range and the vendor figure, at about 330K. Website scans by WPoptic find the paid plugin (folder formidable-pro) on 49,163 live sites; they find the free version on 202,888 sites against about 330K WordPress.org installs, so each site found stands for about 1.6, giving 79K. About 330K free installs x 20% (the usual share of free sites that also run the paid version when many key features are paid) gives 65K. Combining these (weighted average) gives about 77K. Likely range: 50K to 120K. This counts sites running the paid version, including sites whose licence has lapsed. Estimates are rough and based on public figures as of 14 Oct 2026.
