Complianz
Site owners and agencies who want a self-hosted consent banner with generated legal documents and no traffic quotas.
Cookie banners, script blocking, Google Consent Mode, consent logs and US privacy laws: how the main WordPress cookie consent plugins compare.
If your site uses analytics, advertising pixels, embedded videos or other third-party services, privacy laws such as the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the ePrivacy Directive and several US state laws expect you to tell visitors and, in many regions, ask for consent before those services run. Cookie consent plugins show the banner, block scripts until visitors agree, record their choices and pass consent signals to tools such as Google Analytics and Google Ads.
We compare the most popular WordPress consent plugins, including Complianz, CookieYes, Cookiebot, Borlabs Cookie, GDPR Cookie Compliance, Real Cookie Banner, WPConsent and Cookie Notice & Compliance. Each one is checked against 25 features covering the consent banner, scanning and blocking, compliance and records, and technical details such as whether it relies on an external service.
Every feature is marked as free, paid, add-on, partial or not offered, with a note and a link to the source. The ranking combines feature coverage with popularity and ratings. This comparison is not legal advice.
Overall score = 55% features, 20% popularity, 25% ratings. Filter by the features you need, or tick two plugins to compare them.

A notice that says "we use cookies" does not meet GDPR rules on its own. For EU and UK visitors, non-essential scripts generally must not run until the visitor opts in. Prior blocking, a cookie scanner that finds what your site loads, and granular categories are the features that actually do this work.
If you use Google Analytics 4 or Google Ads with visitors in the EEA, Google expects consent signals through Consent Mode v2. Check that the plugin supports it, and whether it is in the free plan.
Regulators can ask you to show how consent was collected. Consent logs and the ability to export them are important for businesses, and data request forms help with access and deletion requests.
Some tools, such as Cookiebot and CookieYes, run the banner and scanning from their own cloud and price by page views or pages scanned. Others, such as Complianz, Borlabs Cookie and Real Cookie Banner, run inside WordPress. Consider pricing at your traffic level and where consent records are stored.
If you have visitors from several regions, region-based banners let you show opt-in banners where required and lighter opt-out notices elsewhere, in the visitor's language. Always check current legal requirements for your audience; this comparison is not legal advice.
