Self-hosted cookie consent plugin with a setup wizard, cookie scan, script blocking and generated legal documents for EU, UK, US and other…
Self-hosted consent plugin from the WPCode team with a free scanner, auto-blocking, Consent Mode v2 and GPC; paid plans add logs, geolocation and TCF.
WPConsent is a cookie consent plugin from the team behind WPCode, part of the Awesome Motive group. It launched in early 2025 and has grown quickly to 200,000+ active installs. Everything runs inside WordPress: the banner, the scanner results and, on paid plans, the consent records are stored in your own database rather than on a third-party consent server.
Setup starts with the scanner, which crawls the site, identifies services such as Google Analytics, Google Ads, Meta Pixel, Microsoft Clarity or Pinterest, and builds a cookie inventory. A separate Cookie Inspector records what a fresh visitor actually receives. Known scripts are then blocked until consent, and embeds from YouTube, Vimeo, DailyMotion, Google Maps and reCAPTCHA can be held behind locally hosted placeholders. The banner is rendered in a Shadow DOM so theme CSS does not break it.
The free version is broad: long and floating banner layouts, granular categories, scanning, automatic script and content blocking, Google Consent Mode v2 and Clarity Consent Mode, Global Privacy Control, a one-click cookie policy page and WP Consent API support. Paid plans are yearly in US dollars. Basic adds the modal layout, multilanguage support with WPML, Polylang or TranslatePress, consent logs with CSV export and IAB TCF v2.3. Plus adds geolocation rules (GDPR, CCPA and LGPD templates), automatic translation and the Do Not Sell add-on with a request form and request log. Higher tiers mainly add sites and support level. All plans list unlimited page views and scans.
WPConsent suits small and mid-sized sites that want a modern, self-hosted banner with automatic blocking without signing up to a SaaS. Stores and publishers that need consent logs, regional rules or TCF should budget for a paid plan. The vendor is clear that the plugin is a tool and does not guarantee legal compliance.
Best for: Small and mid-sized sites that want automatic scanning and blocking in a self-hosted plugin without a SaaS subscription.
WPConsent packs scanning, blocking, Consent Mode v2 and GPC into its free tier, which makes it a strong starting point. Proof of consent, regional rules and TCF push most business sites onto a paid plan, but pricing is flat with no traffic caps.

Our estimate, see method below.
How we estimated this: The vendor figure (200K+) is within WordPress.org's rounding of the free installs, so it says nothing about paid sites. About 250K free installs x 8% (the usual share of free sites that also run the paid version when some key features are paid) gives 20K. Likely range: 10K to 40K. This counts sites running the paid version, including sites whose licence has lapsed. Estimates are rough and based on public figures as of 14 Oct 2026.
