Brave Popup Builder
Freemium drag-and-drop popup and conversion widget builder for WordPress: popups, slide-ins, sticky bars, multi-step forms, quizzes and A/B tests.
Hosted lead-generation and popup platform with a free WordPress connector; popups, bars, slide-ins and gamified campaigns for marketers.
OptinMonster is a hosted (SaaS) lead-generation platform. The free plugin on WordPress.org is a connector: it links your site to an OptinMonster account, embeds campaigns and adds a Gutenberg block and Elementor widget for inline campaigns. The campaigns themselves are designed, stored and served from OptinMonster’s own app, which also works on Shopify, Wix, Squarespace and plain HTML sites.
Installing the plugin gives you a starter account with three campaigns and 500 impression credits; beyond that you need one of four paid plans (Basic, Plus, Pro, Growth), which differ by sites, monthly impressions and targeting depth. Every plan includes lightbox popups, floating bars, slide-ins, fullscreen overlays, inline and sidebar forms, the drag-and-drop builder and a library of 700+ templates.
OptinMonster’s strength is its rule engine. Time, scroll and inactivity triggers, page targeting and cookie-based frequency settings are on every plan. Plus adds device targeting, content locking and A/B testing; Pro adds Exit-Intent detection, referrer and UTM targeting, countdown timers, Zapier and webhooks, and revenue attribution; Growth unlocks geolocation, OnSite Retargeting, follow-up campaigns, coupon wheels and the WooCommerce rules for cart totals, cart contents and products viewed.
Native connections cover the major email and CRM tools (Mailchimp, HubSpot, Klaviyo, ActiveCampaign, ConvertKit and others), and WPForms can be dropped into a campaign as a block. Leads are sent to your email provider, with optional backup in OptinMonster’s MonsterLeads; a GDPR checkbox field and a data processing agreement are available.
OptinMonster suits marketers and stores that want a mature, fully hosted conversion toolkit across several platforms and are willing to pay a recurring subscription for advanced targeting.
Best for: Marketers and ecommerce teams who want a hosted conversion platform with advanced behavioural targeting and are happy to pay a monthly-equivalent subscription.
OptinMonster has one of the most complete targeting and testing toolkits in the popup space, and the hosted builder is easy to use. The catch is cost: the features most people buy it for sit in the Pro and Growth plans, and the SaaS model means a recurring bill tied to impressions.

Free installs from WordPress.org, the vendor's own claim, and our estimate of paid installs.
Active installations reported by WordPress.org.

Our estimate, see method below.
How we estimated this: WordPress.org shows 1M+ free installs, which could mean anything from 1M to 2M. The vendor says 1.2M+ sites, so we put the free count halfway between the middle of that range and the vendor figure, at about 1.4M. About 1.4M free installs x 8.4% (the usual share of free sites that also run the paid version when a hosted service whose free tier is limited, lower for very large free bases) gives 110K. Likely range: 55K to 220K. This counts sites running the paid version, including sites whose licence has lapsed. Estimates are rough and based on public figures as of 14 Oct 2026.
