Overview

MailOptin is a freemium lead-generation and newsletter plugin from Proper Fraction LLC, the team behind ProfilePress. It combines popup and opt-in forms with email features such as new-post notifications and broadcasts, so a small site can capture subscribers and email them from one plugin.

Free (Lite) version

MailOptin Lite on WordPress.org lets you build lightbox popups, before- and after-post forms, sidebar/widget forms and call-to-action boxes with a drag-and-drop form and template builder. Page-level targeting, honeypot spam protection, user registration forms and an acceptance checkbox for consent are included, as are connections to a long list of services such as Mailchimp, Kit, ActiveCampaign, Brevo, HubSpot, Salesforce, Zoho CRM and Google Sheets. Campaign cookies control how often a closed or converted campaign reappears. The Lite version can also email new posts to registered users.

Premium

The paid plans unlock notification bars, slide-ins and content lockers, plus the triggers most people expect from a popup tool: exit intent, time on site, scroll, pageviews, click launch and AdBlock detection. Premium also adds referrer and device targeting, query-string rules, WooCommerce conditions (cart total, items in cart, purchase history, lifetime spend), A/B testing, advanced analytics, campaign scheduling, a local lead bank, custom CSS and animations. The Standard plan covers lead generation; Pro and Agency add email automation and newsletters.

Limitations

  • The free version lacks exit intent, timed or scroll triggers and slide-ins, so it is quite basic for popups.
  • No geo-location targeting, full-screen mat type or gamified opt-ins.
  • Plans are relatively expensive once you need newsletters across more than one site.

MailOptin suits WordPress publishers and WooCommerce stores that want popups tied closely to many email services, and optionally a built-in newsletter, without moving to a SaaS popup tool.

Best for: Publishers and WooCommerce stores that want popups connected to many email/CRM services, with optional built-in newsletters.

MailOptin is a capable all-rounder whose integration list and WooCommerce rules stand out. The free version is too limited for serious popup work, so budget for at least the Standard plan. It lacks geo targeting and gamified formats.

Pros

  • Huge integration list covering email services, CRMs, Google Sheets and webhooks
  • WooCommerce conditions for cart total, items in cart and purchase history
  • Doubles as a newsletter tool for new-post emails and broadcasts
  • Query-string and referrer rules for campaign-specific offers
  • Can display WPForms, Gravity Forms or CF7 forms inside campaigns via custom HTML
  • Lead bank stores subscribers locally as a backup

Cons

  • Lite version has no exit intent, time, scroll or click triggers
  • Slide-ins, bars and content locker are premium only
  • No geo-location targeting or gamified opt-ins
  • Newsletter features require the pricier Pro or Agency plans
