tawk.to Live Chat
Free hosted live chat with unlimited agents, ticketing and a knowledge base; paid add-ons cover branding removal, AI Assist and hired agents.
French-built hosted chat and shared inbox with a free 2-seat plan and flat per-workspace paid plans adding omnichannel, the Hugo AI agent and ticketing.
Crisp is a customer messaging platform made by Crisp IM, a company founded in 2015 in Nantes, France. The WordPress plugin links your site to a Crisp workspace and adds the chatbox; agents reply from Crisp’s web, desktop and mobile apps.
Crisp charges per workspace rather than per agent, and it does not cap the number of conversations on any plan, which sets it apart from conversation-metered rivals.
Hugo, Crisp’s AI agent, runs on credits included with paid plans. The separate Crisp WooCommerce plugin shows customers’ order history in the inbox and lets agents process refunds.
The free plan lacks saved replies and triggers, and omnichannel messaging and the chatbot builder need Essentials, so the jump from free to useful is $95 a month. The WordPress.org plugin has not been updated for over a year and is flagged as untested with recent WordPress releases, though it only embeds the widget.
Crisp suits small teams, especially in Europe, that want EU-hosted data, predictable flat pricing and an inbox that can grow into omnichannel support.
Best for: Small European teams that want EU-hosted chat with flat pricing and room to grow into omnichannel support.
Crisp's flat per-workspace pricing and lack of conversation limits make costs predictable, and EU hosting is a real plus for GDPR. The free plan is thin, though, and most useful features start at $95 a month, so it is best value for teams that will use the omnichannel inbox.

Our estimate, see method below.
How we estimated this: About 15K free installs x 5% (the usual share of free sites that also run the paid version when a hosted service whose free tier is generous) gives 750. The vendor figure (600K+) is more than 8 times the free installs, so it probably counts more than this plugin (other products or platforms) and we leave it out. Likely range: 380 to 1.5K. This counts sites running the paid version, including sites whose licence has lapsed. Estimates are rough and based on public figures as of 14 Oct 2026.
