WooCommerce
Free, open-source WordPress store plugin from Automattic for physical and digital products, extended with free and paid extensions from the Woo Marketplace.
Stripe payment-form plugin for one-off and recurring payments without a cart. The free version adds a 3% fee; paid plans remove it.
WP Simple Pay is a Stripe-only payments plugin from the Awesome Motive family (originally built by Sandhills Development). It does not create a shop, catalogue or cart. Instead you build payment forms (a product, a service, a deposit, a membership fee or a donation) and drop them onto any page. Payments, customers and subscriptions live in your Stripe account, and the plugin keeps a transactions list in WordPress.
The free plugin on WordPress.org, listed as Stripe Payment Forms by WP Simple Pay, sends buyers to Stripe’s hosted Checkout page. It supports cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and a long list of regional methods, plus recurring subscriptions. The catch is a 3% application fee on every transaction, charged on top of Stripe’s own fees. Any paid licence removes that fee. It also adds on-site embedded and overlay forms, a drag-and-drop field builder, coupon codes, fixed tax rates, user-entered amounts, refunds from WordPress, file uploads and custom receipt emails. The higher tiers unlock more. Plus adds customer-managed subscriptions and renewal reminders. Professional adds installment plans, setup fees, free trials, Klarna, Afterpay and Affirm, and location-based automatic tax.
WP Simple Pay is a payment tool, not a store. It has no shipping rates, no real stock control (only purchase limits on forms), no secure file delivery, no abandoned-cart emails and no order bumps. It only works with Stripe, so PayPal is not an option. Its reports are payment-volume summaries rather than product or customer analytics. The vendor also says it is not meant to be combined with WooCommerce or Easy Digital Downloads.
Who should pick it: consultants, coaches, clubs, schools and service businesses that sell a few fixed or recurring items through Stripe and want no cart. If you need a catalogue, shipping or downloads, a full eCommerce plugin is a better fit.
Best for: Service businesses, coaches and organisations that take one-off or recurring Stripe payments through simple forms instead of a store.
WP Simple Pay does one job well: it turns Stripe into tidy payment forms with good subscription controls. Skip the free version if you take meaningful revenue, because the 3% fee soon costs more than a Personal licence. It is not a substitute for a real store when you need shipping, stock or downloads.

Free installs from WordPress.org, the vendor's own claim, and our estimate of paid installs.
Active installations reported by WordPress.org.

Our estimate, see method below.
How we estimated this: The vendor counts 14K+ sites in total; taking away about 8.5K free installs (the middle of the WordPress.org range) leaves 5.5K, of which we count 80% (4.4K). About 8.5K free installs x 12% (the usual share of free sites that also run the paid version when some key features are paid, and store owners upgrade more often) gives 1K. Combining these (weighted average) gives about 3.3K. Likely range: 2.1K to 5K. This counts sites running the paid version, including sites whose licence has lapsed. Estimates are rough and based on public figures as of 14 Oct 2026.
