WooCommerce
Free, open-source WordPress store plugin from Automattic for physical and digital products, extended with free and paid extensions from the Woo Marketplace.
Lightweight self-hosted WordPress store plugin from WPManageNinja for physical, digital and subscription products, with no transaction fees.
FluentCart is a newer eCommerce plugin from WPManageNinja, the company behind Fluent Forms, FluentCRM and FluentBooking. It is built around custom database tables for speed and keeps all store data on your own server, without phoning home or adding transaction fees.
The free plugin covers simple, variable, digital and hybrid products, subscriptions (intervals, trials, retries on failed renewals and a customer area to pause or cancel), coupons, tax classes with EU VAT, shipping regions and classes, and order management with refunds. Stripe, PayPal and cash on delivery are built in, and gateway add-ons cover regional processors such as Razorpay. Product, checkout and customer dashboard blocks work in the block editor, with Bricks and Elementor support. A REST API and hooks support custom development.
Pro ($199/year for one site, up to $899/year for 50 sites, with discounted lifetime licences from $249) adds software licensing, order bumps, inventory tracking, installments, bundles, setup fees, upgrade paths, advanced reports beyond 30 days, store roles, custom receipts and advanced payment gateways such as Paddle and Mollie.
It is young, so the add-on ecosystem is small and some features are still arriving. Multi-currency is not available yet, express wallets depend on Stripe, and live carrier shipping rates are not documented. Inventory tracking and order bumps are Pro.
FluentCart suits site owners already using the Fluent suite, and sellers of digital products or subscriptions who want a fast, fee-free store without WooCommerce’s overhead.
Best for: Fluent suite users and sellers of digital products or subscriptions who want a fast, fee-free, self-hosted store.
FluentCart is a promising lightweight alternative to WooCommerce, with a generous free tier for subscriptions and digital products and no platform fees. It is still maturing, so stores needing multi-currency, live shipping rates or a deep add-on library should check the roadmap first.
What FluentCart highlights on its WordPress.org page and its own website, split by version.
