Flexible Shipping
Table rate shipping for WooCommerce by Octolize: free weight and cart-total rules, PRO adds class, product, quantity, role and time conditions.
Free Woo connector for ShipStation, the paid shipping platform: sync orders, print multi-carrier labels in bulk, send tracking and manage returns.
ShipStation is a hosted shipping and order fulfilment platform, now part of Auctane. The free ShipStation for WooCommerce plugin, maintained by Woo, connects a store to a ShipStation account using WooCommerce REST API keys and an authentication key. Orders in the statuses you choose are pulled into ShipStation, and when a label is created the order is marked as shipped in WooCommerce with the carrier and tracking number added.
The work happens inside ShipStation: comparing rates across carriers, buying discounted labels or using your own carrier accounts, batch printing, automation rules, customs declarations for international parcels, return labels and customer notification emails. Since plugin version 5.3, US stores can also show ShipStation Checkout Rates as a WooCommerce shipping method, though it is off by default and must be set up in ShipStation first.
The plugin is free, but ShipStation is a subscription priced by monthly shipment volume. Starter starts at $14.99 a month for 50 shipments with 3 users, Standard at $29.99 adds unlimited automation, branded tracking pages and a returns portal, and Premium starts at $349.99 with advanced warehouse and inventory tools. Annual billing saves 20% and there is a 30-day free trial.
Costs rise with shipment volume, and some features buyers expect, such as auto-splitting orders and branded tracking, need Standard. The connector cannot filter which orders export, product dimensions are not sent, and WordPress.org reviews (3.3/5) mention sync problems after updates. It does not provide table rates or conditional checkout rules.
ShipStation suits growing stores, especially multichannel sellers, that ship enough parcels to justify a monthly fee for multi-carrier labels and automation.
Best for: Growing or multichannel stores shipping enough orders to justify a monthly fee for multi-carrier labels and automation.
ShipStation is a full fulfilment platform rather than a WooCommerce shipping method, and the free Woo connector makes order sync and tracking straightforward. It earns its fee at higher volumes; small stores or those that mainly need checkout rate rules should look elsewhere.
