WP Charitable
Self-hosted donation and fundraising plugin with unlimited campaigns, goals and a drag-and-drop builder; paid plans add recurring, Gift Aid and P2P.
Long-running WordPress donation plugin with campaigns, a visual form builder, donor dashboard and donor wall; paid plans add recurring, P2P and tributes.
GiveWP (now sold as Give by Liquid Web/Nexcess) is a self-hosted donation plugin that keeps every donor and donation record in your own WordPress database. It has been on WordPress.org since 2015 and is one of the most installed fundraising plugins in the directory.
You create campaigns, each with its own goal and an optional campaign page built from blocks (goal progress, donate button, recent donations and top donors). Donation forms are built in a visual form builder with a design mode, and can be placed with a block, shortcode, widget or as a standalone form page. The free plugin includes Stripe (via the Payment Element, so wallets and ACH work where your Stripe account supports them), PayPal Donations, offline donations with instructions, donor management, reports, a donor dashboard and a donor wall.
The free Stripe gateway adds a 2% platform fee on top of Stripe’s own charges; activating any paid Give licence removes it, and PayPal has no extra fee. Paid plans are sold per year:
GiveWP’s campaign model, donor dashboard and reporting are mature, and you own your data with no lock-in to a hosted platform. The downside is that common nonprofit needs are spread across tiers: recurring giving needs Pro, and tributes, Gift Aid and peer-to-peer need the $599 Elite plan. The free version’s 2% Stripe fee also means very small organisations either pay a licence or accept the fee (or use PayPal).
Pick GiveWP if you want a full, self-hosted fundraising system on WordPress and expect to grow into recurring giving and campaigns over time.
Best for: Nonprofits that want a full self-hosted fundraising system on WordPress and plan to add recurring giving and campaigns.
GiveWP is the most complete self-hosted donation plugin here, with campaigns, a donor dashboard and solid reporting even in the free version. Its weak spots are the 2% fee on free Stripe donations and the cost of reaching recurring, tribute and peer-to-peer features.

Our estimate, see method below.
How we estimated this: The vendor figure (100K+) is within WordPress.org's rounding of the free installs, so it says nothing about paid sites. About 150K free installs x 12% (the usual share of free sites that also run the paid version when some key features are paid, and store owners upgrade more often) gives 18K. Likely range: 9K to 36K. This counts sites running the paid version, including sites whose licence has lapsed. Estimates are rough and based on public figures as of 14 Oct 2026.
