Woo Subscriptions
Woo's official premium extension for selling recurring products, memberships and subscription boxes, with renewals, switching, retries and gifting.
Freemium WooCommerce subscription plugin with Stripe and PayPal renewals in the free version, plus installments and churn tools in Pro.
WPSubscription (listed on WordPress.org as Subscriptions for WooCommerce) is a subscription plugin from Convers Lab that turns WooCommerce products into recurring products billed daily, weekly, monthly or yearly. It is a lighter, cheaper alternative to the official WooCommerce Subscriptions extension, aimed at small stores selling digital products, courses, memberships and simple physical boxes.
The free plugin already covers the core loop: simple subscription products, free trials, guest checkout, a customer dashboard for viewing, cancelling and updating card details, an admin subscription list with activity logs, and lifecycle emails. Unusually for a free tier, automatic renewals through Stripe and PayPal are included, so a store can bill recurring payments without buying anything. Version 2.0 (September 2026) added reusable plans with multiple durations and a one-time purchase option that shows a savings badge next to the subscription price.
The Pro licence adds the features most growing stores look for:
Its strengths are price and a generous free tier, plus a quick release pace. The limits are that it is still young (about 1,000 active installs), customers cannot pause or skip renewals, delivery synchronisation affects shipping dates only, not billing, and migrating from WooCommerce Subscriptions is a service you request from support rather than a self-serve tool. Pick it if you want Stripe/PayPal subscriptions at low cost and do not need pause, skip or gifting.
Best for: Small WooCommerce stores that want Stripe or PayPal subscriptions free, with an inexpensive upgrade for installments and churn tools.
WPSubscription gives away more than most free subscription plugins, including real Stripe and PayPal renewals, and its Pro tier is priced well below the official extension. It lacks pause, skip and gifting, and is still maturing, so stores with complex physical-box needs should look elsewhere.

Our estimate, see method below.
How we estimated this: The vendor figure (1,200+) is within WordPress.org's rounding of the free installs, so it says nothing about paid sites. About 1.5K free installs x 12% (the usual share of free sites that also run the paid version when some key features are paid, and store owners upgrade more often) gives 180. Likely range: 90 to 360. This counts sites running the paid version, including sites whose licence has lapsed. Estimates are rough and based on public figures as of 14 Oct 2026.
