Subscriptions for WooCommerce (WP Swings)
Freemium WooCommerce subscription plugin by WP Swings with free trials, sign-up fees and Stripe renewals free, plus switching, gifting and retries in…
Woo's official premium extension for selling recurring products, memberships and subscription boxes, with renewals, switching, retries and gifting.
Woo Subscriptions (formerly WooCommerce Subscriptions) is the official recurring-payments extension sold on the WooCommerce Marketplace. It was built by Prospress, which Automattic acquired in 2019, and it is now maintained by the Woo team. There is no free version: you buy an annual licence and get updates and Woo support for one site.
The extension adds simple and variable subscription product types. Each product can have its own billing period and interval, an optional length, a free trial and a sign-up fee. Renewals are created as normal WooCommerce orders, scheduled through Action Scheduler, and charged automatically by any gateway that supports tokenised payments, including WooPayments, Stripe and PayPal. If a gateway cannot charge automatically, customers receive an invoice and pay each renewal manually.
Customers can suspend and reactivate, but there is no native skip-next-renewal button or cancellation survey with retention offers; those need AutomateWoo, another extension or custom code. Reporting covers subscription and renewal totals but is basic compared with dedicated SaaS analytics tools. The bulk CSV importer for migrations is a free but unsupported beta tool hosted on GitHub. At $279 per year for a single site it is also the most expensive option in this group.
Pick Woo Subscriptions if you want the safest long-term choice with the widest gateway and plugin compatibility and you are comfortable paying a premium for it.
Best for: Established WooCommerce stores that want the reference subscription extension with the widest gateway and third-party support.
Woo Subscriptions is the default choice for serious recurring revenue on WooCommerce because nearly every gateway and add-on is built to work with it. It is pricier than the alternatives and still lacks skip and retention tools, but its renewal reliability and switching logic are hard to beat.
