Paid Memberships Pro
Open-source WordPress membership plugin with free core, unlimited levels, Stripe/PayPal subscriptions and a large library of free and premium add-ons.
Premium WordPress membership plugin from Caseproof with paywall rules, subscriptions, built-in courses and community add-ons for creators.
MemberPress is a premium-only membership plugin made by Caseproof. It runs entirely inside your WordPress site and combines paid subscriptions, access rules, an LMS and, on higher plans, community tools, so creators can sell memberships without stitching several plugins together.
The core concept is the membership (a product with its own price, billing cycle and trial) paired with rules that lock posts, pages, categories, tags, custom post types or partial content behind one or more memberships. Members get a self-service account page for subscriptions, payments and profile details, and MemberPress handles upgrades and downgrades with automatic proration, coupons, and tax including VAT.
There is no free version. Pricing is split into Launch, Growth and Scale, each for one site (extra sites cost more). Launch covers the essentials, Stripe only, Mailchimp and basic LMS, but takes a 4.9% transaction fee on payments. Growth removes that fee and adds PayPal, Square and offline payments, content dripping, protected file downloads, PDF invoices, advanced course features, ClubDirectory member profiles and ClubCircles forums, plus more email marketing integrations. Scale adds corporate (group) accounts, gifting, Amazon S3, Authorize.net, the REST API and developer tools, Zapier and Easy Affiliate.
The entry plan’s transaction fee and Stripe-only checkout push most serious sites to Growth, and the most-requested business features (group accounts, API, Zapier, WooCommerce sync via Zapier) sit on the top Scale plan. Introductory prices are half the renewal price, so budget for the full rate in year two.
MemberPress suits creators, coaches and publishers who want an all-in-one paid membership and course site on WordPress and are comfortable paying a premium for a cohesive, well-supported product.
Best for: Creators and coaches who want an all-in-one paid membership, course and community site and can justify Growth or Scale pricing.
MemberPress is one of the most complete premium membership plugins, and its proration, tax handling and built-in LMS are genuine time-savers. The catch is pricing: the Launch plan's fee and Stripe-only checkout make Growth the realistic starting point, and B2B features sit on Scale.
