Paid Memberships Pro
Open-source WordPress membership plugin with free core, unlimited levels, Stripe/PayPal subscriptions and a large library of free and premium add-ons.
Premium WordPress membership and subscription platform with built-in checkout, upsells, dunning, courses and lifetime-value reporting.
MemberMouse is a premium-only membership plugin that has been around since 2009. It puts the business side of subscriptions first: it includes its own checkout, one-click upsells and downsells, card-on-file purchases, overdue-payment handling and reporting on lifetime customer value, churn and retention, all inside WordPress.
You sell products that grant membership levels or bundles, then protect posts, pages, custom post types, categories and taxonomies, with time-released drip schedules. SmartTags let you personalise pages and show or hide parts of content based on a member’s status. Members manage their account, payment card and subscriptions from a My Account page, and admins can log in as a member, view activity logs and catch account sharing.
Each licence covers one domain, plus a free staging licence. Basic includes Stripe, Courses for MemberMouse, coupons and gifting, drip content, seven email integrations (including ActiveCampaign, Kit and Drip), Zapier, developer tools and standard reports. Plus adds PayPal and Braintree, social login, and quizzes and certificates for courses. Pro adds Authorize.Net and ClickBank, billing-date management, the full analytics suite, advanced affiliate settings and finer employee permissions.
The gaps are notable. MemberMouse’s own docs say it has no native tax or VAT support, it does not block direct access to files without another plugin, and WooCommerce, group seats and member directories depend on third-party plugins. Its bbPress integration is limited, and every licence covers a single site.
MemberMouse suits info-product sellers and subscription businesses, mainly in markets where VAT is not a concern, who care most about checkout conversion, upsells and retention data.
Best for: Subscription and info-product businesses that care most about checkout conversion, upsells and retention analytics.
MemberMouse is strong on revenue: upsells, dunning and LTV reporting are its standout features, and courses are included. The lack of native tax/VAT handling, file protection and group accounts makes it a weaker fit for EU sellers and B2B memberships.
