EWWW Image Optimizer
Image optimizer that compresses images on your own server for free with unlimited WebP, plus paid cloud compression and the Easy IO…
Official TinyPNG plugin that compresses JPEG, PNG and WebP uploads through the Tinify API and can convert them to WebP or AVIF.
TinyPNG (plugin slug tiny-compress-images) is the official WordPress plugin for the Tinify compression API, the service behind the TinyPNG and TinyJPG web tools. Images are sent to Tinify’s servers, compressed with its smart lossy engine and written back to your media library, so every thumbnail size you choose is replaced with a smaller file.
The plugin compresses new uploads automatically, offers a Bulk TinyPNG screen for the existing library, and lets you optimise single images from the media list. It can resize oversized uploads to a maximum width or height, keep selected metadata (copyright, creation date, GPS) or drop the rest, and choose which registered thumbnail sizes are processed. Recent versions add WebP and AVIF conversion, delivered with a picture element or Apache rewrite rules, plus an optional backup of the original upload. A WP-CLI command and multisite support make it workable for developers and networks.
There is no Pro plugin. The plugin is free and uses your Tinify API key: the first 500 compressions each month are free, then usage is billed per compression ($0.009 each up to 10,000, then $0.002). Each thumbnail size counts as a compression and format conversion uses an extra credit per size, so a typical free month covers roughly 100 images, or about 50 with conversion enabled. One API key can be used on any number of sites.
There are no compression levels to choose from, no lazy loading, CDN or responsive delivery, and it only handles media library images. The free allowance is small for stores with many thumbnail sizes, and AVIF/WebP conversion doubles credit use.
Best for sites that want reliable, high-quality lossy compression with predictable pay-as-you-go costs and already handle caching and delivery elsewhere.
Best for: Sites that want dependable compression and next-gen conversion billed per image, without a monthly subscription.
TinyPNG does one job well: high-quality lossy compression with optional WebP/AVIF conversion, billed only for what you use. It lacks the delivery extras (CDN, lazy load, adaptive sizing) of suites like Optimole, and the 500-credit free tier runs out quickly on sites with many thumbnail sizes.

Our estimate, see method below.
How we estimated this: The vendor figure (50K+) is below the WordPress.org count, so it looks out of date and we leave it out. About 150K free installs x 5% (the usual share of free sites that also run the paid version when a hosted service whose free tier is generous) gives 7.5K. Likely range: 3.8K to 15K. This counts sites running the paid version, including sites whose licence has lapsed. Estimates are rough and based on public figures as of 14 Oct 2026.
