LearnDash
Premium WordPress LMS for selling and managing courses, with drip content, quizzes, certificates, groups and native Stripe/PayPal checkout.
Freemium WordPress LMS from ThemeGrill with a drag-and-drop builder, built-in checkout, SCORM import and migration tools from other LMS plugins.
Masteriyo is a WordPress LMS from the ThemeGrill team. It uses a React-based admin with a drag-and-drop curriculum builder and its own order system, so you can sell courses through Stripe, PayPal, Mollie or Lemon Squeezy without WooCommerce, although WooCommerce, SureCart and other checkouts are supported too.
The free plugin covers a lot of ground: unlimited courses, text, video, PDF and live-stream lessons, quizzes with time limits and randomised questions, a certificate builder, Q&A, a student dashboard with progress bars, revenue sharing for instructors, group courses, SCORM and H5P content, and a migration tool that moves courses, quizzes, orders and students from LearnDash, LifterLMS, Tutor LMS, LearnPress and MasterStudy. Optional free add-ons connect GamiPress, BuddyPress, FluentCRM, Google Meet and the major page builders.
Premium add-ons are unlocked by the Basic, Pro and Elite plans. The vendor’s documentation places content drip, prerequisites, assignments, the gradebook, course bundles, coupons, multiple instructors per course, Zoom and the Mailchimp, HubSpot and Zapier integrations in the Pro plan, while white labelling needs Elite. Annual plans are currently shown at an introductory discount, with renewals at the full list price.
Masteriyo is a good fit for independent educators and small academies that want a modern interface, native payments and an easy route off another LMS plugin.
Best for: Educators who want a modern free LMS with native payments and an easy migration path from another LMS plugin.
Masteriyo packs native checkout, certificates, SCORM and migration into a free plugin that is easy to get started with. Serious course programmes will still need the Pro plan for drip, prerequisites and grading, so budget for that rather than the cheaper Basic plan.
What Masteriyo LMS highlights on its WordPress.org page and its own website, split by version.

Our estimate, see method below.
How we estimated this: The vendor figure (6K+) is within WordPress.org's rounding of the free installs, so it says nothing about paid sites. About 6.5K free installs x 6% (the usual share of free sites that also run the paid version when most features are free, and store owners upgrade more often) gives 390. Likely range: 200 to 780. This counts sites running the paid version, including sites whose licence has lapsed. Estimates are rough and based on public figures as of 14 Oct 2026.
