PowerPress Podcasting by Blubrry
Free Blubrry plugin that builds Apple/Spotify-ready podcast feeds from WordPress posts, with players, Podcasting 2.0 tags and optional hosting.
Podcast players (single track, archive and sticky) plus Easy Hosting and a transcript plugin, sold as a subscription by SPI Labs. Formerly Smart Podcast Player.
Fusebox began life in 2015 as Smart Podcast Player, a WordPress plugin from Pat Flynn’s SPI team, and was rebranded in 2020. Today it is a subscription service run by SPI Labs that combines embeddable podcast players, podcast hosting (called Easy Hosting) and a WordPress-only transcript plugin. Players are configured in the Fusebox dashboard and placed on a site with a Fusebox block, a JavaScript embed or an iframe, so the same player also works on Squarespace, Webflow, Wix, Teachable and other platforms.
There are three player types. The Single Track Player suits show-notes pages, the Archive Player lists the whole back catalogue with featured episodes, and the Sticky Player sits at the top or bottom of every page and plays the latest episode. Players can be colour-matched to your brand and offer speed control, downloads, social sharing, a call-to-action button and email capture. Subscriber links to Apple Podcasts, Spotify and other apps are set once in Show Settings.
There is no free version and no WordPress.org listing; the plugin is downloaded from your Fusebox account. Two plans are offered: Starter at $9 a month and Pro at $19 a month, with a 33% saving for annual billing and a 14-day trial. Hosting with unlimited episode uploads is included in both plans, but the Archive and Sticky players are Pro-only.
Fusebox is a player first and a full hosting platform second: there are no documented video podcasts, private feeds, advertising tools or episode schema, and the public release notes have not been updated since 2020. The current WordPress plugin does not work with the Classic Editor, and the original Classic plugin is only kept for existing subscribers. Pick Fusebox if you want a polished, brandable player (especially the sticky player) and simple hosting under one bill; look elsewhere if you need a WordPress-native feed or deeper monetisation.
Best for: Podcasters who want a brandable sticky or archive player on their site and are happy to pay a monthly subscription that also covers hosting.
Fusebox still offers one of the nicer-looking podcast players, and bundling hosting into the price makes it reasonable value if you would otherwise pay for both. However, the WordPress side has been quiet for years and the feature set is thin on publishing and monetisation, so it suits player-focused sites more than serious podcast publishers.

How we estimated this: Premium-only; vendor claims 'thousands' of podcasters. Assumed 2K–4K accounts, about half embedding on WordPress via the plugin -> 1K–2K sites, est. ~1.5K. Likely range: 750 to 3K. This counts sites running the paid version, including sites whose licence has lapsed. Estimates are rough and based on public figures as of 14 Oct 2026.
